Human immunodeficiency virus or HIV is a sexually transmitted disease, which can develop into acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS research constitutes of all fundamental researches about the nature of HIV as an infectious agent and AIDS as the disease caused by HIV. It also includes all medical researches that attempt to prevent, treat, or cure HIV/AIDS. The two primary approaches that are being pursued in the research for an HIV cure are a gene therapy that aims to develop an HIV-resistant immune system for patients, and clinical trials to strip the HIV from human DNA and have it destroyed permanently by the immune system. This book traces the progress in AIDS research and highlights some of its key concepts. The various advancements in this research are glanced at and their applications as well as ramifications are looked at in detail. Researchers and students in this field will be assisted by this book.
